Bacall

Lauren Bacall was an American actress and model whose career spanned six decades. Born Betty Joan Perske in New York City on September 16, 1924, she began as a fashion model in the 1940s before being noticed by film scouts and signed to a Hollywood studio contract. She adopted the stage name Lauren Bacall and quickly rose to prominence for her striking presence, husky voice, and poised confidence.

Bacall achieved instant stardom after being cast opposite Humphrey Bogart in To Have and Have Not (1944), a partnership that defined both their careers. The pairing continued in The Big Sleep (1946) and Dark Passage (1947), making her one of the era’s most iconic film noir leading ladies. After leaving some film work for stage projects, she returned to the screen in later years with roles in films such as The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996). She also enjoyed a successful stage career, winning a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Applause (1970).

Beyond acting, Bacall published memoirs and remained a public figure associated with classic Hollywood glamour. She was married to actor Humphrey Bogart from 1945 until his death in 1957, with whom she had two children, and later to actor Jason Robards Jr. from 1961 to 1969. Bacall died on August 12, 2014, in New York City, at the age of 89. Her work is celebrated for its lasting influence on film noir, screen presence, and feminine poise.
