BWI

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, commonly known by its IATA code BWI, is an international airport serving the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. It is located in Linthicum, Maryland, in Anne Arundel County, about 10 miles south of downtown Baltimore and roughly 32 miles northeast of Washington, D.C. The airport is owned by the State of Maryland and operated by the Maryland Aviation Administration.

Opened in 1950 as Friendship International Airport, the facility was later renamed Baltimore/Washington International Airport and, in 2002, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in honor of Thurgood Marshall, a Baltimore native and U.S. Supreme Court justice.

BWI has a single terminal complex with multiple concourses connected to the central terminal area, and an internal transit system to move between concourses. It serves as a major domestic hub for travel in the mid-Atlantic and offers international flights to select destinations in the Caribbean, Central America, and Europe on a seasonal or limited basis. A range of commercial airlines operate at BWI, serving both economy and premium markets.

The airport is accessible via major highways, including the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (MD-295) and Interstate 195. It is linked to the regional rail network through the BWI Rail Station, which provides Amtrak and MARC commuter rail service to destinations along the Northeast Corridor.
