BTMS

BTMS, also known as Behentrimonium Methosulfate, is a quaternary ammonium compound commonly used in hair conditioners and skin care products. It is a cationic surfactant, meaning it has a positive electrical charge. This positive charge is attracted to the negatively charged surface of damaged hair, allowing BTMS to bind to the hair shaft and smooth the cuticle. This results in improved detangling, reduced static, and a softer feel.

BTMS is derived from behenic acid, a fatty acid found in rapeseed oil. It is considered a mild ingredient and is often used as an alternative to silicones for achieving similar conditioning effects. Its emulsifying properties also help to blend oil and water-based ingredients in formulations, creating stable and aesthetically pleasing products.
