BMPlike

BMPlike is a term used in molecular biology and regenerative medicine to describe molecules that resemble bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) in sequence, structure, or function. BMPlike agents can be natural proteins with BMP-like activity found in certain organisms, or engineered mimetics designed to activate BMP signaling pathways.

Applications for BMPlikes focus on bone repair, spinal fusion, dental tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. Safety considerations include the risk of ectopic bone formation, inflammation, and unwanted signaling in non-bone tissues. Regulatory status is heterogeneous, with many BMPlike approaches in preclinical development or early-stage clinical trials rather than routine clinical use.
