BIW
BIW stands for Body in White, a term used in automotive manufacturing to describe the vehicle’s structural shell after the individual sheet metal panels have been stamped, formed, and joined but before painting and the installation of mechanical components and interiors. The BIW comprises the primary load-bearing elements of the vehicle, including the floor pan, roof, pillars, rails, crossmembers, doors, and other subassemblies that define the shell’s rigidity and safety characteristics.
The BIW is produced in the body shop, where panels are joined through welding methods such as
Quality control in the BIW stage focuses on dimensional tolerances, seam quality, gaps, and alignment of panels
