BIOSåterställning

BIOSåterställning, often referred to as CMOS reset or BIOS clear, is a process that reverts the system's BIOS/UEFI settings back to their factory default values. This can be useful for troubleshooting various hardware and boot-related issues, such as when a system fails to boot after changing BIOS settings, experiences instability, or to recover from a forgotten BIOS password.

There are typically two primary methods for performing a BIOSåterställning. The first is by accessing the BIOS/UEFI setup utility itself. Upon entering the setup, users can usually find an option labeled "Load Defaults," "Restore Defaults," "Load Optimized Defaults," or something similar. Selecting this option and saving the changes will reset the BIOS to its original configuration.

The second method involves a physical reset performed on the computer's motherboard. This is often done by locating a small button on the motherboard labeled "Clear CMOS" or by removing and reinserting a small, coin-like battery known as the CMOS battery. Removing the battery for a short period (typically a few minutes) and then reinserting it drains the power from the CMOS chip, effectively clearing its stored settings. This physical method is particularly useful if the system is not booting at all, making it impossible to access the BIOS setup menu. It's important to ensure the computer is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet before attempting any physical motherboard manipulation to avoid electrical damage.
