BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. It is responsible for the development and organization of cricket in the country, including the Indian national cricket team and most domestic competitions. The BCCI is registered as a society in Mumbai and is a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), where it plays a leading role in global cricket governance and revenue distribution.

History and functions: The BCCI was established in 1928 to govern cricket in India and began representing Indian cricket in international affairs through the ICC. It selects and manages the national team for all formats, arranges international tours and bilateral series, and negotiates sponsorship and broadcasting rights. Domestically, it administers tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as well as the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is organized by the BCCI and features franchise teams.

Governance and structure: The BCCI's general body comprises representatives from state and regional associations. It has a president, secretary, treasurer, and a management committee that handles day-to-day affairs. The organization has undergone governance reforms following the Lodha Committee recommendations (adopted in stages from 2016 onward), including measures to improve transparency, cooling-off periods, age limits for office holders, and the principle of one state, one vote under tighter oversight.

Status and influence: The BCCI is one of the wealthiest cricket boards and a major source of revenue for the ICC through media rights and sponsorship deals. It plays a central role in Indian cricket and in setting standards for governance and development within the sport.

Controversies and reforms: The BCCI has faced governance and integrity challenges, including IPL-related investigations and ongoing reforms overseen by courts and oversight committees to improve transparency and accountability.
