Bølgene
Bølgene, meaning "the waves" in Norwegian, is a term used to describe waves in various contexts, most commonly ocean surface waves generated by wind and disturbances. In oceanography, waves are rhythmic displacements of the sea surface caused by the transfer of energy from wind to water. Key properties include height (amplitude), period (time between successive crests), wavelength (horizontal distance between crests), and speed. In deep water, longer waves travel faster than shorter ones, a consequence of wave dispersion; the phase speed relates to wavelength and period, while the group speed, which estimates how fast energy propagates, is typically about half the phase speed for deep-water waves.
Formation and propagation: wind friction agitates the surface, creating capillary waves that grow into gravity waves.
Beyond physical waves, the term Bølgene is also used in Norwegian literature and media as a metaphor
In cultural contexts, Bølgene may function as a title for artistic works or as a figurative reference
