Axillområde

Axillområde refers to the axilla, commonly known as the armpit. This anatomical region is located where the arm connects to the shoulder. It is characterized by a hollow space that contains a complex network of structures including blood vessels, nerves, lymphatic vessels, and lymph nodes, as well as fat tissue and hair follicles.

The axilla plays a significant role in the body's thermoregulation due to the presence of apocrine sweat glands. These glands produce sweat, which upon evaporation, helps to cool the body. The hair in the axilla can trap moisture and potentially aid in the dispersal of pheromones, though its importance in humans is debated.

The axillary lymph nodes within the axillområde are crucial for the lymphatic system's function.
