Avjämningsmedel

Avjämningsmedel, often translated as leveling compound or smoothing compound, is a cementitious or gypsum-based material used in construction to create a smooth, even surface on floors before the installation of final floor coverings. It is typically applied over concrete, wood, or other subfloors that may have imperfections, unevenness, or slight damage. The primary purpose of avjämningsmedel is to provide a level and stable base, ensuring that the subsequent flooring, such as tile, carpet, vinyl, or laminate, can be installed correctly and achieve its intended aesthetic and functional performance.

The application process usually involves mixing the powder with water to achieve a self-leveling or trowel-applied consistency. The mixed material is then poured or spread onto the prepared subfloor. Its inherent flow properties allow it to spread out and fill low spots, creating a uniform plane. Depending on the product and thickness, avjämningsmedel can set within a few hours, allowing for rapid project completion. It is crucial to prepare the subfloor properly by cleaning it, repairing any significant damage, and often applying a primer to ensure good adhesion and prevent excessive absorption of moisture from the compound.
