Avisauravis

Avisauravis is a genus of small, flightless theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 million years ago. It is known from a single species, Avisauravis parkeri, which was discovered in the Hell Creek Formation of South Dakota, USA. The genus name, Avisauravis, is derived from the Latin words avis (bird) and saurus (lizard), reflecting its bird-like features and dinosaurian nature. The specific name, parkeri, honors the paleontologist Peter J. Parker, who was instrumental in the discovery and description of the fossil.

Avisauravis is notable for its unique combination of features, including a long, slender snout, small size, and a bird-like posture. It is estimated to have been about 1.5 meters (5 feet) long and weighed around 10 kilograms (22 pounds). The dinosaur had a long, straight tail, which may have been used for balance or display. Its legs were relatively short and robust, suggesting it was a fast runner. The most distinctive feature of Avisauravis is its long, slender snout, which is unlike that of any other known dinosaur. This snout is thought to have been used for grasping and manipulating food, similar to the beaks of modern birds.
