Avgasrensningsanläggningar, commonly known as exhaust gas cleaning systems or scrubbers, are essential components in various industrial processes and vehicles designed to reduce harmful emissions. Their primary function is to remove pollutants from exhaust gases before they are released into the atmosphere. These pollutants can include sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter, and other harmful compounds that contribute to air pollution, acid rain, and respiratory illnesses.

There are several types of avgasrensningsanläggningar, with wet scrubbers and dry scrubbers being the most prevalent. Wet scrubbers typically use a liquid, such as water or a chemical solution, to absorb or react with pollutants. Ships use these systems to comply with limits on the sulfur content of their fuel.
