Autostradë
Autostradë is the Albanian word for motorway or highway. It refers to a public road with multiple lanes in each direction, separated by a median, designed for high-speed vehicular traffic. Autostradë typically feature controlled access, meaning entry and exit are managed through specific ramps or junctions, and there are generally no at-grade intersections. Speed limits on autostradë are significantly higher than on regular roads, and they are intended for long-distance travel with minimal disruption. These roads are crucial for national and international transportation networks, facilitating the efficient movement of goods and people. In Albania, the development of the autostradë network has been a significant infrastructure undertaking in recent decades, aimed at improving connectivity between major cities and with neighboring countries. These routes are engineered to handle large volumes of traffic safely, often incorporating features like emergency stopping areas and advanced signage. Tolls may be collected on some sections of the autostradë. The design and maintenance standards are aimed at ensuring high levels of safety and capacity for modern transportation needs.
