Auslassbahn

Auslassbahn is a German term used in technical contexts to describe the trajectory or path of something that exits a system. The word combines Auslass (outlet, exhaust) and Bahn (path, trajectory). There is no single universal definition; the precise meaning depends on the discipline.

In mechanical engineering and thermodynamics, the term often refers to the route taken by exhaust gases as they leave a combustion chamber: through the exhaust valve, into the cylinder head, through the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter, and into the atmosphere. The Auslassbahn concept is used when analyzing flow resistance, backpressure, and mixing with ambient air; it influences engine efficiency and emission characteristics.

In fluid dynamics and jet/plume analysis, Auslassbahn describes the trajectory of a jet or plume as it exits a nozzle or outlet, including entrainment, buoyancy, and interaction with the surrounding flow.

In accelerator physics or space engineering, the term may be used to denote the path of particles or radiation along an extraction line after leaving a confinement region; designers consider the Auslassbahn for beam diagnostics and shielding.
