Attributepohjainen is a Finnish term that translates to "attribute-based" in English. In information technology, attribute-based access control (ABAC) is a prominent example of this concept. In ABAC, access to resources is granted or denied based on policies that evaluate attributes of the subject (the user or process requesting access), the object (the resource being accessed), the action being performed, and the environment. This offers a more flexible and granular approach to security compared to traditional role-based access control (RBAC).

Beyond security, attribute-based principles can be applied in various domains. For instance, in product catalogs, items can be described and filtered using attributes like color, size, material, or brand. Similarly, in data management, data can be classified and processed based on attributes such as its origin, format, or relevance. The core idea is to leverage descriptive qualities to enable intelligent and dynamic management of information and resources.
