Atosilla
Atosilla is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, commonly known as the daisy family. The genus currently contains a single species, Atosilla pauciflora. This plant is native to the Cape Provinces of South Africa. Atosilla pauciflora is a small, herbaceous perennial, typically growing to a height of about 15 to 30 centimeters. Its leaves are simple and ovate, arranged in a basal rosette. The flowers are small, daisy-like, and white or pale pink, with a yellow center. They are borne on slender stalks. The plant flowers from spring through summer. Atosilla pauciflora is found in arid and semi-arid regions, often on sandy or rocky soils. It is adapted to dry conditions and can tolerate some drought. The genus name Atosilla is derived from the Greek word "atos," meaning "unseen," referring to its somewhat inconspicuous nature. The specific epithet pauciflora means "few-flowered," describing its relatively small flower clusters. While not widely cultivated, it can be found in botanical gardens and private collections for its unique floral characteristics and drought tolerance. Its conservation status is not extensively documented, but it is considered to be locally common within its native range.
