Atlantology
Atlantology is a broad term encompassing the study of the mythical island of Atlantis. This concept, first introduced by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato in his dialogues *Timaeus* and *Critias*, describes a powerful and advanced civilization that supposedly existed approximately 9,000 years before Plato's time, located beyond the "Pillars of Hercules" (generally believed to be the Strait of Gibraltar). According to Plato's account, Atlantis was a naval power that conquered parts of Western Europe and Africa, but eventually sank into the ocean in a single day and night of misfortune.
