Asianisation

Asianisation refers to the process or trend of increasing influence, presence, or adoption of Asian culture, people, or products within a society or region. This can manifest in various forms, including the growth of Asian populations through immigration, the rising popularity of Asian cuisines, fashion, music, and cinema, or the expansion of Asian businesses and economic interests. The term is often used in discussions about demographics, cultural exchange, and globalization.

Historically, Asianisation has been a continuous process, with various waves of migration and cultural diffusion occurring over centuries. In contemporary contexts, it is frequently discussed in relation to the increasing economic power and global reach of East Asian, South Asian, and Southeast Asian nations. This economic growth has led to greater visibility and accessibility of Asian products and services worldwide.

The concept can also be applied to the integration of Asian elements into non-Asian societies, such as the establishment of Chinatowns or Little Indias in Western cities, or the incorporation of Asian business practices and technologies into global markets. Conversely, it can describe the process by which Asian societies themselves adopt or adapt elements from other Asian cultures or from the West, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as "reverse Asianisation" or by more specific regional terms. The term is generally descriptive and aims to capture observable societal shifts.
