Asennonhallintajärjestelmä

Asennonhallintajärjestelmä, often abbreviated as AHJ or referred to in English as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), is an electronic safety system designed to help drivers maintain control of their vehicle during extreme driving situations, such as skidding or loss of traction. It works by detecting loss of steering control and automatically intervening to help the driver keep the vehicle on its intended path.

The system typically comprises several components, including wheel speed sensors, a yaw rate sensor, a lateral acceleration sensor, and a steering angle sensor. These sensors continuously monitor the vehicle's behavior and compare it to the driver's intended direction, as indicated by the steering wheel angle. If a discrepancy is detected, meaning the vehicle is starting to understeer or oversteer, the AHJ takes action.

AHJ intervenes by selectively applying individual wheel brakes and, in some cases, by reducing engine power. For example, if the car is oversteering (the rear of the car is sliding outwards), the system might apply the brake to an outer front wheel to help pull the car back into line. Conversely, if the car is understeering (the front of the car is sliding outwards), it might brake an inner rear wheel.

The primary goal of an Asennonhallintajärjestelmä is to prevent accidents by helping the driver regain control when a loss of stability occurs. It is considered one of the most significant advancements in automotive safety technology in recent decades, and it has been proven to significantly reduce single-vehicle crashes and rollovers. Many countries now mandate the inclusion of AHJ systems in new vehicles.
