Ascanins
Ascanins is a proposed extinct genus of early hominins. The name "Ascanins" has been suggested for a group of fossils that were found in the Afar region of Ethiopia and dated to approximately 3.5 to 3.8 million years ago. These fossils include fragments of jawbones and teeth, which exhibit a mosaic of primitive and derived features.
The proposed characteristics of Ascanins place it as a potential ancestor or close relative to later hominins,
Some scientists consider the Ascanins fossils to be too fragmentary and lacking in distinct enough features
