Arvovirran is a term encountered in speculative biology and in some science fiction that refers to a hypothetical, hereditary-current organism. It is not an established real species, and there is no empirical evidence of its existence in natural ecosystems. In fictional portrayals, Arvovirran is described as a filamentous organism that propagates primarily through waterborne currents and may exist along a spectrum from simple, unicellular forms to minimal multicellularity.

In these depictions, Arvovirran often has a dual life cycle with an environmental phase and a host-associated phase. During the environmental phase, spores or propagules disperse through currents, while in the host-associated phase it interacts with aquatic invertebrates or wetted substrates. Its genetic material is imagined to be transmitted both vertically, passing traits from parent to offspring, and horizontally, through uptake of genetic modules released by the environment. This combination is used to explore how inheritance can be shaped by ecological context and by gene flow beyond direct reproduction, potentially affecting adaptation on short timescales.
