Arvoosuus

Arvo-osuus, sometimes written arvoosuus, is the unit of ownership in an investment fund, particularly in Finland. It denotes a proportional interest in the fund’s assets and liabilities rather than in any single company. The value of an arvo-osuus changes as the fund’s investments perform, and it does not have a fixed nominal value.

The price per arvo-osuus is typically the fund’s net asset value (NAV) per unit, calculated daily as (total assets minus liabilities) divided by the number of arvo-osuudet outstanding. Investors buy or redeem arvo-osuudet through the fund or its distributors, usually at a price close to NAV, possibly subject to sales charges or redemption fees.

Arvo-osuudet confer a proportional interest in the fund’s assets and income. Holders do not own specific underlying securities; they own units in the fund. Voting rights, if any, are typically exercised at the fund level by the management company or trustee, and retail holders participate through the fund’s governance arrangements as organized by the fund manager.

Distributions from a fund may be paid as cash or reinvested in additional arvo-osuudet. Tax treatment varies by jurisdiction; in Finland, distributions and realized gains are generally subject to capital income tax for individuals. Arvo-osuudet are a common way to access diversified investments within Finnish savings products and investment funds.
