Arról

Arról is a Hungarian postpositional form used to indicate the topic of discourse or the source of information. It is part of a set with erről, corresponding to about this versus about that, and it often appears in constructions where the topic is being referenced or discussed.

In usage, arról commonly marks a proposition or matter that is being referred to. It is frequently found with verbs of speech or thought, as in arról beszélünk (we are talking about that) or arról van szó (that is the matter). It also appears in noun phrases such as arról a témáról, meaning about that topic, and in set phrases where a specific subject is being highlighted. The form often coexists with the proximal variant erről, which means about this, depending on whether the speaker intends to refer to something near or previously established in the discourse.

Common examples illustrate its function: Erről beszéltünk a találkozón (We talked about this); Arról van szó, hogy a projekt késik (That is, the project is delayed); Arról a napról beszéltünk, amikor minden megváltozott (We talked about that day when everything changed). In fixed expressions, arról is used in the standard phrase arról van szó, which functions as a neutral way to introduce the topic or issue at hand.

Related forms exist within the ról/-ről suffix family, which attaches to nouns to express aboutness or origin. Arról itself is distinguished by its connection to demonstratives signaling a distal reference, and it is a common tool for guiding attention to a specific part of a conversation or text.
