Arrheniuslinjaa

Arrheniuslinjaa is a Finnish term that translates to "Arrhenius line" or "Arrhenius plot." It refers to a graphical representation used in chemistry and chemical engineering to study the temperature dependence of reaction rates. The concept is based on the Arrhenius equation, which describes how the rate constant of a chemical reaction varies with absolute temperature.

The Arrhenius equation is typically expressed as k = A * exp(-Ea / RT), where k is the rate constant, A is the pre-exponential factor, Ea is the activation energy, R is the ideal gas constant, and T is the absolute temperature. To visualize this relationship, the Arrhenius equation is often linearized by taking the natural logarithm of both sides, resulting in ln(k) = ln(A) - (Ea / R) * (1/T).

When plotted on a graph with ln(k) on the y-axis and 1/T on the x-axis, this linear form creates what is known as an Arrheniuslinjaa. The plot yields a straight line. The slope of this line is equal to -Ea/R, allowing for the experimental determination of the activation energy. The intercept on the y-axis corresponds to the natural logarithm of the pre-exponential factor (ln(A)).
