Arla

Arla, officially Arla Foods amba, is a multinational dairy cooperative based in Aarhus, Denmark. It is owned by dairy farmers across several European countries and is one of the world's largest dairy companies by turnover. The cooperative produces a wide range of dairy products, including milk, butter, cheese, yogurt and cream, marketed under various brands such as Lurpak and Castello. Arla operates across Europe, the Middle East and parts of Asia, with major markets in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Norway.

Arla's origins lie in regional Danish and Swedish dairy cooperatives. In 2000, Danish MD Foods merged with Swedish Arla Foods AB to form Arla Foods amba, creating a single European dairy company. The organization remains owned by its member farmers and is governed by a board elected from regional cooperatives. Over time, Arla has pursued a unified European structure to coordinate production, distribution and brand development while maintaining farmer ownership.

In governance and strategy, Arla emphasizes sustainability, animal welfare and supply chain transparency.
