Arkeometriska refers to the application of scientific methods and technologies to the study of archaeological materials and sites. The primary goal of arkeometriska is to provide objective, quantitative data that can complement traditional archaeological interpretations. For instance, radiocarbon dating is a widely used arkeometriska technique to determine the age of organic materials, while X-ray fluorescence (XRF) can be employed to identify the elemental composition of pottery or metal objects.

Other common arkeometriska methods include archaeomagnetism for dating fired clay structures, dendrochronology for dating wooden artifacts and structures based on tree ring patterns, and remote sensing techniques like ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and aerial photography for identifying buried archaeological features. Analysis of ancient DNA (aDNA) and stable isotopes can provide insights into past diets, migration patterns, and kinship.
