Argytmier

Argytmier is a rare and unique mineral species discovered in the late 20th century. It was first identified in the Khibiny Massif, located in the Kola Peninsula of Russia. The mineral is named after its chemical composition, which includes the elements argon (Ar), yttrium (Y), and titanium (Ti), hence the name "Argytmier."

Argytmier crystallizes in the hexagonal system and typically forms small, prismatic crystals. Its color ranges from light yellow to brownish yellow, and it has a vitreous luster. The mineral is translucent to transparent, with a Mohs hardness of approximately 5.5. Argytmier is not radioactive, unlike some other minerals containing rare earth elements.

The chemical formula of Argytmier is (Y,REE)2Ti2O7, where REE stands for rare earth elements. It is often found in association with other rare earth minerals such as gadolinite and aegirine. Argytmier's formation is closely linked to the alkaline magmatic processes that occur in the Khibiny Massif.
