Arbetsplatsråd

Arbetsplatsråd, often translated as works council or employee council, is a body within a Swedish workplace that represents the employees in discussions with the employer. Its primary function is to foster cooperation and dialogue between management and staff. The establishment and operation of arbetsplatsråd are regulated by Swedish law, primarily the Co-determination Act (MBL).

The composition of an arbetsplatsråd typically includes both employee representatives elected by their colleagues and management representatives. The size and specific members vary depending on the size and structure of the organization. The council meets regularly to discuss matters concerning the workplace, such as changes in operations, working conditions, personnel policies, and organizational development.

The employer has a duty to inform and consult with the arbetsplatsråd on significant decisions that affect employees. While the employer retains the ultimate decision-making authority, the arbetsplatsråd plays a crucial role in ensuring that employee perspectives are considered.
