This scheme is mandated by the Danish Working Environment Act. The primary purpose of an Arbejdsmiljøordning is to ensure a safe and healthy workplace, prevent accidents and occupational diseases, and promote employee well-being.

Every employer in Denmark is obligated to have an Arbejdsmiljøordning, regardless of the size of the company. Larger companies typically have dedicated internal resources for managing their Arbejdsmiljøordning, while smaller companies may utilize external consultants or collaborate with industry-specific organizations.

Key components of an Arbejdsmiljøordning usually include risk assessment, the development of action plans to address identified risks, procedures for handling accidents and near misses, and the establishment of a company working environment committee (arbejdsmiljøudvalg) in larger organizations. This committee, composed of both management and employee representatives, plays a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and implementing measures to improve the working environment.
