ApeKI
ApeKI is a restriction enzyme used in molecular biology and genomics. It is a Type II restriction endonuclease that recognizes the DNA sequence GCWGC, where W denotes A or T, and it cleaves within or near the recognition site to generate fragments with sticky ends. ApeKI is known to be methylation sensitive, meaning that methylated recognition sites are less likely to be cut.
ApeKI gained prominence through its use in genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS), a reduced-representation sequencing approach that enables high-throughput
Commercial availability and usage: ApeKI is sold by major suppliers as a standard restriction enzyme for routine
Limitations and considerations: Because ApeKI is methylation-sensitive, DNA methylation patterns can influence digestion efficiency and representation
