Antisklitiltak

Antisklitiltak are measures designed to reduce the risk of slipping by increasing traction between a surface and footwear or tires. The term, used in Scandinavian languages, combines anti-slip (antiskli) with tiltak (measures) and encompasses a range of actions, products, and design choices aimed at preventing slips and falls in workplaces, public spaces, and transportation.

Categories of antisklitiltak include: selecting and installing non-slip floor coverings or coatings with roughened textures or added aggregates; applying anti-slip treatments to wet or oily surfaces; using abrasive floor mats and clearly marked, slip-resistant stair nosings; installing handrails and clearly defined edges; applying anti-slip tapes to hazardous zones; providing footwear with slip-resistant soles; and using traction devices for vehicles, such as winter tires or portable ice grips.

Implementation typically begins with a hazard assessment to identify slippery surfaces and operating conditions. Effectiveness depends on proper installation, routine maintenance, and cleaning practices that avoid leaving grease or oil films. Surfaces should be inspected regularly, with worn coatings or mats replaced promptly. In wet or icy climates, seasonal measures such as de-icing, gritting, or snow removal are also part of antisklitiltak.

Testing and standards: slip resistance is evaluated using friction measurements, often via pendulum or ramp tests. Standards and guidelines vary by country and sector, but many jurisdictions require assessments, documented maintenance, and appropriate signage to accompany implemented measures. Results may be reported as friction ratings or pass/fail criteria rather than universal numeric values.
