Antireflexiós

Antireflexiós is a term that refers to the property of a surface or coating that reduces or eliminates unwanted reflections. This is particularly important in optical applications where reflections can degrade image quality or interfere with measurements. The most common way to achieve an antireflexiós effect is through the application of antireflection coatings, often referred to as AR coatings.

These coatings work on the principle of destructive interference. A thin layer of a specific material is applied to the surface. The thickness and refractive index of this layer are carefully chosen so that light reflecting off the top surface of the coating and light reflecting off the interface between the coating and the substrate interfere destructively. This means that the reflected waves cancel each other out, resulting in a significant reduction in the overall reflection.

Antireflexiós coatings are widely used in a variety of products. They are found on eyeglass lenses to improve vision and reduce glare, on camera lenses to enhance light transmission and image clarity, and on display screens of electronic devices such as smartphones and televisions to make them more visible in bright light conditions. The effectiveness of an antireflexiós coating is measured by its reflectance, with lower percentages indicating better performance. Different types of antireflexiós coatings exist, each optimized for specific wavelengths of light or angles of incidence.
