Antikorrosive

Antikorrosive refers to any substance or treatment that prevents or significantly slows down the process of corrosion. Corrosion is a natural electrochemical process that degrades materials, most commonly metals, through chemical or electrochemical reactions with their environment. Antikorrosive measures are employed across a vast range of industries and applications to protect valuable assets and ensure their longevity and functionality.

These substances can work through various mechanisms. Some, known as inhibitors, form a protective film on the surface of the material, acting as a barrier against corrosive agents like oxygen, water, and acids. Others might alter the electrochemical potential of the metal, making it less susceptible to oxidation. Certain coatings, such as paints or platings, provide a physical barrier that isolates the underlying material from the corrosive environment. Sacrificial anodes, commonly used in marine applications, are made of a more reactive metal that corrodes preferentially, protecting the primary metal structure. The choice of antikorrosive treatment depends heavily on the specific material being protected, the environmental conditions it will be exposed to, and the desired lifespan of the protected item. Common examples include paints, galvanization, anodizing, and the application of rust-preventative oils.
