Antibodyfree refers to technologies, products, and strategies that do not rely on antibodies for detection, targeting, or modulation of biological systems. The term is not a formal scientific category but a descriptive label used in discussions, literature, and marketing to contrast non-antibody approaches with traditional antibody-based methods.

In diagnostics, antibodyfree approaches include aptamer-based biosensors and assays, molecularly imprinted polymers, and nucleic-acid–based detectors such as CRISPR-based systems. These methods can offer advantages in stability, manufacturability, and shelf life, and may avoid variable antibody affinities or supply chain constraints. In research, antibodyfree techniques enable protein recognition and measurement without antibodies, enabling alternative assay formats and multiplexing.

Therapeutically, antibodyfree strategies encompass small molecules, peptides, nucleic-acid therapies, and targeted protein degradation technologies that aim to modulate disease pathways without antibodies. In agriculture and environmental monitoring, antibodyfree sensors and detectors are used to reduce reliance on antibodies for field deployments.

Limitations include achieving the high affinity and specificity typical of antibodies, potential off-target effects, and the maturity of some technologies compared with established antibody-based tools. Nonetheless, antibodyfree approaches continue to expand as discovery platforms improve and demand for robust, supply-chain-resilient diagnostics grows.
