Annetaessa is a fictional city in the fantasy realm of Eldoria. It serves as a cultural, educational, and commercial center in the northeastern lowlands, and is renowned for its canal network, stone architecture, and lantern-lit streets.

Etymology: The name Annetaessa is derived from Old Valen terms meaning “inner river” and “crest,” referring to its inland position on a river delta and the raised escarpments that surround parts of the city.

Geography: The city sits along the confluence of the Serene and Brindon rivers, forming a broad delta dominated by stone quays and canal basins. It is encircled by defensive walls and linked by a system of drawbridges, aqueducts, and ferries. The surrounding countryside is a mix of orchards, tilled fields, and forested hills.

History: Annetaessa grew from merchant guilds in the 9th century, expanding through trade with inland kingdoms and coastal ports. It experienced periodic sieges and rebuilding after fires, with a major stone reconstruction in the 14th century. The Lantern Festival originated during a city-wide remediation project in the late medieval era.
