Anføringer

Anføringer is a Danish term referring to quotation marks. In Danish typography, there are specific conventions for their usage. The primary quotation mark used in Danish is the "finsk anførselstegn," which resembles the German style, with the opening quotation mark at the bottom and the closing quotation mark at the top. This is distinct from the English style where both marks are at the top. However, the English style is also commonly understood and sometimes used, especially in informal contexts or when typing on keyboards that primarily support English layouts.

The purpose of anføringer is to indicate direct speech, quoted material, or sometimes to highlight a word or phrase for emphasis or irony. When a quotation appears within another quotation, Danish convention typically uses the opposite style of quotation mark. For instance, if the main quotation uses the Finnish style, the inner quotation would use the English style, and vice versa. Proper use of anføringer ensures clarity and adherence to Danish linguistic and typographical norms.
