Analytestationary

Analytestationary is a term used to describe a condition in statistics and analytical science where the statistical properties of the data, model residuals, or measurement process remain stable across time and conditions. It is a portmanteau combining analyze and stationary (and sometimes analyte), used to emphasize that the analysis is built on a stable underlying process rather than one that evolves in a nonstationary way.

The term is not standard in any single discipline, but it appears in interdisciplinary discussions of time-series analysis, calibration modeling, and sensor data interpretation. In an analytestationary context, the mean, variance, and higher moments of the quantities used in the analysis are approximately time-invariant, and auto-correlation depends only on lag rather than calendar time. In chemistry and analytical chemistry, analytestationary can describe a measurement environment or calibration regime that yields consistent distributions of instrument responses for the same analyte across runs.

Applications include environmental monitoring, financial analytics, quality control, and sensor networks, where the analytestation condition supports the use of simple, time-invariant models and reduces the need for frequent re-calibration or re-fitting. Detecting analytestation typically involves standard tests for stationarity, visual inspection of plots, and assessment of residuals, possibly after detrending or normalization.

Limitations: real data are often nonstationary due to trends, seasonal effects, regime shifts, or sensor drift.
