Aminute refers to a unit of time equal to sixty seconds. It is a fundamental component of larger time divisions such as hours and days. The concept of dividing time into minutes has a long history, with its origins tracing back to ancient civilizations that used sexagesimal (base-60) systems for calculations, notably the Babylonians. The minute, along with the second and hour, forms the basis of the International System of Units (SI) for measuring time. While the second is the SI base unit, the minute is a widely recognized and practical subdivision used in everyday life, from scheduling appointments to timing events. Historically, the definition of a minute was tied to astronomical observations, specifically the rotation of the Earth.
