Amidization
Amidization refers to the chemical process of converting a carboxylic acid into an amide. This transformation typically involves reacting the carboxylic acid with ammonia or a primary or secondary amine. The reaction generally requires activation of the carboxylic acid, often through the use of coupling reagents or by converting the carboxylic acid into a more reactive derivative such as an acid halide or anhydride. Heat is also frequently applied to drive the reaction to completion.
This process is fundamental in organic chemistry and is widely employed in the synthesis of various compounds.
