Amavasya

Amavasya is the lunar phase of the new moon in the Hindu calendar, occurring once every lunar month when the moon is not visible in the sky. This day holds significant religious and spiritual importance in Hindu culture. During Amavasya, the darkness of the new moon is believed to enhance spiritual energies, making it an auspicious time for meditation and introspection.

Many Hindus observe fasts and perform special prayers on Amavasya. It is particularly dedicated to the worship of ancestors, with rituals known as Shraddha or Tarpan performed to honor and seek blessings from departed family members. Some Amavasyas have special significance, such as Mahalaya Amavasya, which marks the beginning of Durga Puja, and Diwali Amavasya, which coincides with the festival of lights.

Some people believe that negative influences are stronger during this period, leading to various protective rituals.
