Alvechurch

Alvechurch is a village and civil parish in Worcestershire, England. It is situated about 7 miles northeast of the city of Worcester and 5 miles south of Birmingham. The village lies within the Bromsgrove district. The name Alvechurch is believed to derive from an Old English personal name, Aelfric, and the word 'circe', meaning church.

Historically, Alvechurch was part of the manor of Bromsgrove and later became a separate parish. The village has a long history, with evidence of settlement dating back to Roman times. The parish church, St. Laurence's, has parts that are believed to date from the 12th century, although it has been significantly altered over the centuries. The Grand Union Canal passes close to the village, which was once important for the transport of goods.

In modern times, Alvechurch has grown into a residential dormitory for commuters working in Birmingham and Worcester. It retains a village feel with a number of local amenities including shops, pubs, and a primary school. The surrounding area offers attractive countryside, popular with walkers and cyclists.
