Altn

Altn is a fictional town in the country of Veridia, created for illustrative purposes. It is situated on the Lyth River, near the Verdant Hills in Veridia's northern region. The town covers about 155 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 11,700 in 2023, yielding a modest population density.

The name Altn is of uncertain origin; theories link it to an old vernacular term for high ground or to a local family name found in medieval charters.

Altn traces its origins to a 12th-century settlement that grew around a water mill and weekly market. It later developed as a regional trading post, diversifying into agriculture and small-scale industry before expanding administratively in the mid-20th century.

The town is governed by a mayor and a 12-member council elected for four-year terms. It forms part of Veridia's North Prefecture and collaborates with neighboring municipalities on regional services such as schooling and road maintenance.

The local economy combines agriculture, notably apples and grain, with wood processing and light manufacturing. The services sector, including education, health care, retail, and tourism, provides significant employment and supports the town’s vitality.

Altn is served by a regional railway line and a network of buses. It connects to the national road system via the A57 and is approximately 45 kilometers from Crest Point International Airport.
