Altistuessa

Altistuessa is a coastal municipality and town in the western Valorian region of the country of Valoria. Located on the western shore of the Valorian Sea, it lies about 60 kilometers north of the national capital, Lumen. Altistuessa covers approximately 42 square kilometers and has a population of about 9,500 as of 2023.

Historically a fishing village founded in the 12th century, Altistuessa grew with port activity and later textile manufacturing in the 19th century. The town expanded its infrastructure in the mid-20th century and today combines fishing, tourism, and light industry.

Geography includes a low coastal plain rising to inland hills. The climate is temperate maritime with mild winters and moderate summers; annual rainfall averages around 800 millimeters, with sea breezes reducing temperature extremes.

Most residents identify as Valorian nationals. The official language is Valorian; minority communities speak regional dialects. The population is aging, with a median age around 44.

Main sectors are fishing, small-scale farming, and tourism. The harbor serves commercial fishing fleets and leisure boats; a weekly fish market is held near the waterfront. Altistuessa is connected by a regional rail line to Lumen and surrounding towns and is linked by a two-lane highway. A small municipal hospital provides basic healthcare.

Notable sites include the Church of Santa Maria (15th century) and the cliffside Old Fortress overlooking the harbor. The annual Sea Festival in August attracts visitors with boat parades, markets, and seafood tastings. Local cuisine emphasizes seafood, olive oil, and regional wines.
