Alloploidy
Alloploidy is a type of polyploidy where an organism has a chromosome number that is not a multiple of the haploid number of the species. This condition arises due to the fusion of gametes from different species, resulting in a hybrid organism with a unique chromosome complement. Alloploidy can occur naturally or be induced experimentally. It is a common phenomenon in plants, where interspecific hybridization and subsequent chromosome doubling can lead to the formation of allopolyploid species.
Allopolyploids often exhibit enhanced genetic diversity and can have improved traits such as increased size, vigor,
