Alatyppiä is a Finnish term that translates to "low nitrogen" and refers to a condition in which a plant or organism experiences a deficiency of nitrogen. Nitrogen is a crucial macronutrient essential for plant growth, playing a vital role in the synthesis of chlorophyll, amino acids, proteins, and nucleic acids. A lack of nitrogen can significantly hinder a plant's development, leading to visible symptoms.

Common signs of alatyppiä in plants include stunted growth, with smaller leaves and fewer branches.
