Alakuori

Alakuori is a highland region in the northern part of the continent of Eyria. It comprises rugged plateaus, cedar forests, and river valleys, covering about 15,000 square kilometers. The regional capital is Lanner, situated on the River Sel and serving as an administrative and cultural hub.

The name Alakuori comes from the Alakuor language, with elements interpreted as "sky" and "heart."

Geography and climate: Elevations range 800–2,300 meters. The climate is temperate to subalpine, with long winters and brief summers. The lower slopes host dense forests; higher areas are rocky and sparsely vegetated.

History: Archaeological evidence shows permanent settlement in the late Neolithic era, followed by clan-based polities that formed a loose confederation. In the modern era, Alakuori has been a semi-autonomous prefecture within the United Federations of Eyria since 1963.

Population and languages: The region is home to about 320,000 people. The regional language Alakuori is widely spoken, alongside Common Eyrish.

Economy and culture: The economy relies on forestry, timber, slate mining, and eco-tourism. Notable crafts include wood carving and weaving. Festivals such as the Solstice Market and Lake Lantern celebrate seasonal traditions.

Notable features: Key landscapes include Mount Halis, Lake Mir, and the Valley of Echoes. The capital's Old Quarter preserves historic architecture and serves as a cultural venue.
