AlQuddus

Al-Quddus, written in Arabic as القدوس, is an attribute and one of the 99 Names of Allah in Islamic tradition. It is commonly translated as “the Most Holy” or “the Holy One,” conveying a sense of absolute sanctity, purity, and perfection that is beyond creation.

Etymology and meaning: The name derives from the Arabic root Q-D-S, which denotes holiness and sacredness. With the definite article al-, it emphasizes a unique, unparalleled holiness attributed to God alone.

Scriptural and doctrinal context: In Islamic theology, Al-Quddus denotes God’s pure, unblemished essence and transcendence from all imperfections. The Qur’an presents a compilation of divine names in Surah al-Hashr (59:23), describing Allah as, among other attributes, the King and the Holy (al-Malik al-Quddus). The name is frequently invoked in prayers, supplications, and invocations alongside other attributes to reflect on God’s perfection.
