Al-Albani was a renowned Islamic scholar, hafiz (holder of the Quran in memory), and muhaddith (scholar of Hadith) who played a significant role in the modern field of Hadith criticism. His full name was Muhammad Nasiruddin al-Albani, and he was born on October 29, 1914, in Ashkodera, a village near the city of Ioannina, in the Ottoman Empire, which is now part of Greece.
