AkzoNobel

AkzoNobel N.V. is a Dutch multinational company focused on paints and coatings. Headquartered in Amsterdam, it serves decorative paints for homes and buildings as well as a broad range of industrial coatings for automotive, aerospace, marine, and protective applications. The group operates in more than 150 countries and employs tens of thousands of people.

AkzoNobel traces its origins to a 1994 merger between Akzo and Nobel Industries, two Dutch chemical firms, forming a diversified chemicals and coatings group. It adopted the AkzoNobel name in 2008. In 2018, its speciality chemicals business was spun off as Nouryon, leaving AkzoNobel primarily as a paints and coatings company. The group was the subject of a high-profile, unsolicited takeover bid by PPG Industries in 2017–2018, which did not proceed.

Core brands include Dulux, Sikkens, and International Paint, along with Interpon powder coatings and other specialty coatings used in architecture, automotive, and industrial markets. The company markets a range of protective, decorative, and functional coatings for consumers, professionals, and manufacturers.

Governance and context: AkzoNobel is publicly traded on Euronext Amsterdam and is a constituent of the AEX index. It emphasizes sustainability and responsible sourcing, with goals to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and expand the portfolio of environmentally favorable coatings.
