Akvaponi is a term used primarily in speculative fiction and emerging cultural studies to describe an imagined aquatic culture or communication system. The core idea posits communities living in or near underwater or submerged environments that develop distinct social practices, languages, and arts shaped by buoyancy, pressure, and acoustic transmission.

In literary and media contexts, akvaponi is often depicted as featuring bioluminescent signaling, sonar-based conversation, submerged architecture, and rituals conducted within caves or coral reefs. Works employing the concept typically examine themes of adaptation, sovereignty, and the ethics of coexisting with marine ecosystems.
